European parliamentary assistants affair: Jean-Luc MELENCHON's lawyers call for an end to the investigations
Four years after the start of the investigations, Jean-Luc MELENCHON has not been heard or indicted in the case of European parliamentary assistants. His lawyers are calling for an end to the investigation.
"We have asked the investigating judges to close the current proceedings for failure to comply with the reasonable time limit," Jade DOUSSELIN, one of the lawyers for France Insoumise leader Jean-Luc MELENCHON, told Agence France-Presse (AFP).
"This investigation has in fact never existed since neither Mr. Jean-Luc MELENCHON nor any of his parliamentary assistants have been heard by the judges in this case," she added.
The note for the purpose of closing the investigation filed by Jean-Luc Mélenchon's counsel in January has not received any response from the investigating judges in charge of the investigations since November 2018.
"Jean-Luc Mélenchon is being denied what remains the most fundamental rights of our judicial system, namely to know what he is accused of and to be able to defend himself if necessary," said Jade Dousselin.
